California Retrofitters, LLC

Soft-Story Retrofitting for the Greater Los Angeles Area. California Retrofitters, LLC offers complete “start-to-finish” seismic retrofitting services to satisfy new local ordinances.

As shown through the destruction of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, many of Southern California’s older buildings remain vulnerable to seismic activity. In response to this great risk, the cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Burbank have passed legislation requiring many of the older apartment buildings to be “retrofitted” for earthquake safety.

What is Seismic Retrofitting?

Seismic retrofitting is the strengthening of an existing building to help resist the lateral forces caused by an earthquake.  Buildings built before 1978 in Southern California with “tuck-under” parking are typically subject to potential collapse.  The structural strengthening can be achieved through a number of creative ways.  Here are some photos of typical soft-story buildings.

What Do I Do if My Property Requires a Retrofit?

Give us a call to set up an appointment! We will meet you at the property and send you a proposal within a week.  Our clients are often very busy, and we are happy to meet on the weekends.

How Much Does it Cost?

Typical seismic retrofits costs between $50,000 and $130,000 depending on the size of the property.  However every building is different and many engineering solutions are available to meet your needs.

Do you Provide Financing?

Yes! We have numerous financing options including PACE and private lending.

What Makes California Retrofitters, LLC Different?

California Retrofitters, LLC uses a “Design-Bid-Build” process which significantly optimizes costs and ensures the property owner’s best interests.  Engineering is performed as a first step; and once design plans are completed, we assist building owners in collecting bids to ensure the most competitive price for construction.  This also reduces a potential conflict of interest between engineers and contractors of “over-engineering”.  Our construction process is particularly useful for saving significant costs for large HOA and apartment building projects.
